Basic or half-day packages are typically two to four hours of shooting time. They cover the core interior spaces and the pool or main outdoor area. The delivered set is generally 20 to 40 edited photos. Drone coverage is typically not included, and shooting is done in standard daylight rather than at golden hour. For smaller villas or owners wanting to test the waters, this entry point can be appropriate — but it leaves out the golden-hour pool shots and aerial images that are standard in competitive listings.
Standard or full-day packages extend to six to eight hours, typically structured to include the villa in standard daylight for interior spaces and golden-hour timing for the exterior and pool. The delivered set is generally 50 to 100 edited photos covering all interior rooms, multiple exterior angles, amenity details, and some aerial shots. This tier suits most mid-range and premium villa listings.
Premium packages typically involve more than a single shoot session — often a combination of an interior session and a separate golden-hour session on the same or different day. Delivered photo counts of 80 to 150-plus edited images allow comprehensive platform coverage. Drone photography, styling assistance, and in some cases cinematic video are included. This tier is appropriate for luxury villas with extensive grounds, multiple room configurations, or villas targeting both OTA platforms and a direct booking website.

Questions to Ask Before Booking
These questions will tell you more about a photographer’s professionalism and the value of a package than the package name alone.
How many edited photos do I receive? This is the most important distinction. Some packages advertise “hundreds of shots taken” but deliver far fewer edited images. The number that matters is the number of fully edited, platform-ready photos you receive at delivery. Confirm this before booking.
Are drone or aerial shots included, and who handles the permits? In some parts of Bali — particularly near Ngurah Rai Airport in the Kuta-Jimbaran-Nusa Dua corridor — commercial drone operation requires specific permits. If aerial shots are included in your package, confirm whether permit management is the photographer’s responsibility or yours.
What is the editing and delivery turnaround time? A professional edit of 80 to 100 villa photos takes time. If a photographer is promising same-day delivery of a large set, that is a red flag (see below). Realistic turnaround for a properly edited villa set is typically five to ten business days depending on volume and season.
Are full commercial usage rights included? You will be uploading these photos to multiple OTA platforms, your website, and potentially social media channels. You need unrestricted commercial usage rights, permanently, with no attribution requirements. Most professional photographers include this as standard, but it is worth confirming in writing.
Can I see a complete shoot set — not just highlights? Every photographer has a curated highlights portfolio. Before booking, ask to see a complete delivered set from a similar-sized villa. This reveals the editing consistency across a full shoot, the photo count at different distances and angles from each space, and how the photographer handles difficult lighting situations. Highlights can hide inconsistency; complete sets reveal it.
What communication and preparation do you provide before the shoot? A professional photographer should send your villa manager a preparation brief and shot list in advance of the shoot. If the answer to this question is “not much” or “we just show up and shoot,” that is a signal about how the overall engagement will be managed.
Red Flags to Watch For
“Unlimited photos” without specifics on editing. This usually means many unedited or minimally processed RAW files, not a large set of properly colour-graded, platform-ready JPEGs. Ask specifically: how many fully edited, final photos will I receive?
Same-day or next-day delivery for large sets. Properly editing 80 to 100 photos takes hours of skilled post-processing work. Physically impossible same-day turnarounds typically mean minimal editing — basic exposure adjustments rather than proper colour grading, sky management, and ambient light balancing. Fast delivery is not a benefit if the edit quality is poor.
No pre-shoot communication or checklist. Your villa needs specific preparation before a professional shoot — pool chemistry, linen staging, garden condition, styling. A photographer who does not send any briefing material in advance is leaving that preparation to chance.
Unwillingness to show complete portfolio sets. Any professional photographer should be able to show you a complete shoot set, not just selected hero images. If a photographer can only share highlight images and not complete sets on request, treat that as a significant red flag.
The Commercial Rights Issue
This deserves particular attention for owners listing on multiple platforms. Photography for commercial use — which includes all OTA listings — requires the photographer to grant commercial usage rights to the client. Without this, technically, uploading the images to Airbnb or Booking.com infringes the photographer’s copyright.
Most professional villa photographers in Bali include commercial rights as standard, but confirm it specifically. You need: commercial usage rights across all platforms, no expiry on those rights, and no requirement to credit the photographer on the listing platforms (which is not possible on most OTA platforms anyway).
What Delivery Should Look Like
At the end of a professional shoot, you should receive:
- High-resolution JPEG files suitable for print or any platform requirement
- Web-optimised JPEG files sized appropriately for fast platform upload
- Files organised by room or category (exterior, pool, living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, amenities, aerial) so uploading to multiple platforms is straightforward
- A complete set that covers every key space in the villa, not just the photogenic highlights
Organisation by category matters more than it might seem. When uploading to Airbnb, Booking.com, and Agoda separately — each with different interface requirements — having files already sorted by room saves significant time and reduces the risk of sequencing errors in your listing.
